Highless Marijuana: Does It Fall Under Drug Crimes Law?

Highless Marijuana-South Carolina Drug Crimes Lawyer

You heard it correctly, Israeli researchers are currently growing the plant in a top-secret location that is Highless Marijuana . The hope is that this new Highless Marijuana is to ease the patient’s ailments without getting them high.Highless Marijuana

The company, Tikun Olam, is developing cannabis. The cannabis consists of more than 60 chemical compounds. The high feeling resulting from marijuana is due to the ingredient THC. THC has no real medical benefits but contains psychoactive properties. The Highless Marijuana also contains Cannabidiol or CBD. CBD is the substance responsible for the anti-inflammatory benefits.

THC and CBD differ in their properties. THC binds to the brain receptors causing the “high” sensation. CBD does not bind to these receptors; therefore patients do not become “stoned”.  Tikun Olam’s product is free of THC but very high in CBD.

The company has recently developed Avidekel, the enhanced cannabis drug-free of THC. Tikun Olam began their research on cannabis in 2009. Avidekel contains 15.8 percent CBD and less than one percent THC.

The use of medicinal cannabis, or medical marijuana as it’s known, is spreading worldwide. Like the US, marijuana use in Israel is illegal; however, it was legalized for medicinal purposes in 1993. Today the drug is used by 9,000 people in Israel for medical purposes including those suffering from illnesses like cancer, Parkinson’s, multiple sclerosis, Crohn’s disease, and post-traumatic stress disorder.

Other drug companies like Tikun Olam have also taken interest in developing similar drugs. In the UK GW Pharmaceuticals, partnered with Bayer and Almirall, are selling an under-the-tongue spray known as Sativex. Sativex, like Avidekel, minimizes highs by manipulating ingredients in the cannabis.

So what does this mean for patients in the US and globally? If adopted in the US, it could mean many medical marijuana users may be able to take the drug and still perform day to day tasks, like driving, without feeling groggy, foggy, or high.

The drug will provide anti-inflammatory benefits. Avidekel has yet to officially begin clinical trials; however, the effects have been tried on mice. Because medicinal marijuana is legal, there is nothing stopping people from trying the new THC-free cannabis. So far ten people have begun using the enhanced cannabis in the last six months.
