Alec Baldwin’s Yoga Instructor Wife Hit With Personal Injury Lawsuit

Hilaria Thomas Baldwin, Alec Baldwin’s Wife, Faces Personal Injury Lawsuit for “Negligence” and “Emotional Distress” in Yoga Studio

A man in Lower Manhattan has filed a personal injury lawsuit against Hilaria Thomas, Alec Baldwin’s wife, for injuries and emotional distress caused by the yoga instructor’s overcrowded yoga studio.

The plaintiff – allegedly a blogger for Huffington Post named either Spencer Wolff or Spencer Wolfe – filed papers because he suffered “serious” and “severe” injuries and “emotional upset” in a class that the celebrity yoga instructor led on January 15th.

The plaintiff’s personal injury lawsuit blames Thomas’s “negligence” and “overcrowded classroom” for causing his injury.

The Personal Injury Lawsuit Against Yoga Instructor Hilaria Thomas

Hilaria Thomas has been a yoga instructor since 2005. She currently works for a Manhattan studio called Yoga Vida, which could not be reached for comment. She married Baldwin this past summer, and the couple is expecting their first child later this year.

Generally, fitness centers like gyms and yoga studios require students to sign a waiver of liability, in which the student accepts responsibility for self-injury unless gross negligence, unreasonably dangerous activities, or fraud are involved.

According to the New York Post, Wolff alleges that he was instructed to “perform a dangerous activity at a wall.” Headstands are not unusual in a variety of yoga styles, and many classes will lead students through the activity. However, overcrowded classrooms, weak muscles, and improper instruction can all lead to accidents when performing this tricky maneuver.

The plaintiff alleges, in his personal injury lawsuit, that performing a handstand in the crowded class caused him to fall “straight through the window” at the 6th floor studio and severely cut his leg and foot. Allegedly, the plaintiff cut his leg in 5 places below the knee.
