Chrysler Issues Vehicle Recall Notice for Rollaway Risk

Chrysler Group LLC has issued a vehicle recall notice for 469,000 SUVs worldwide to update the software in the circuit boards, which were found to transmit signals that triggered the gear shift into neutral, causing a rollaway hazard.

Included in the vehicle recall notice are model years 2006 through 2010 Jeep Commanders, and model years 2005 to 2010 Jeep Grand Cherokees. About 295,000 of those are in the United States, 28,500 are in Canada, and 4,200 are in Mexico. The remaining 141,000 are outside of North America.

This is the largest vehicle recall notice Chrysler as issued this year. Last year, in November, the automobile manufacturer recalled 900,000 Jeep Grand Cherokees and Liberty SUVs worldwide due to a problem that would cause the airbags to deploy inadvertently.

Chrysler issued this latest vehicle recall notice after learning about 26 accidents and 2 injuries related to the gear shift problem. The manufacturer will directly notify vehicle owners and make repairs at dealerships for free.

Chrysler has also issued a vehicle recall notice for a different problem in about 5,330 right-hand-drive 2008 to 2012 model year Jeep Wranglers, to install dust shields to prevent dust buildup which can compromise airbag operation. All of the vehicles are in the US, but Chrysler has said that there have been no accidents or injuries reported due to the problem.

The automobile manufacturer only recently reemerged after a government sponsored bankruptcy four years ago. Last month, they reported a steep drop in quarterly profits due to an aggressive new-vehicle launch schedule. However, Chrysler has said that they are back on track to meet business targets and they expect a stronger second half of 2013.

Defective Products Law And Vehicle Recalls

Every year, thousands of consumers sustain serious injuries from defective products. A defective product lawyer can help you with an injury you may receive. Many of these injuries could be avoided if the manufacturers or distributors of these products took additional steps to ensure consumer safety. Defective products that commonly cause injuries include medical devices, pharmaceutical products, and other defective products such as toys, cars and automotive parts.

There are a number of reasons that defective products make it to our shelves:

  • Defective manufacturing
  • Inadequate testing
  • Design defects
  • Marketing Misrepresentation

To protect yourself and your family, it’s important to know what products have been recalled because they are defective or unsafe. Federal agencies such as the FDA (Food and Drug Administration) and the CPSC (U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission) frequently issue recalls for medical devices, drugs, and products that may be harmful to consumers.
