Coastal Carolina Cheerleading Coach Jailed after Intoxication and Disorderly Conduct

Disorderly Conduct

The head cheerleading coach at Coastal Carolina is now facing charges of disorderly public conduct and public intoxication, as well as resisting arrest.

Elizabeth Hadley Appenzeller of Conway was booked into the J. Reuben Long Detention Center at 3:20 PM, Sunday September 9.

According to The State Newspaper, Appenzeller was arrested after refusing to get out of her boyfriend’s truck. The man was collecting his belongings when Appenzeller allegedly hopped in the back of the truck refusing to let him leave. Appenzeller allegedly stated that she was upset about the breakup. When an officer told her to get out of the truck, she began yelling profanities. The officer arrested Appenzeller after she refused to cooperate with his requests.

Appenzeller, who is an employee of CCU, was the assistant coach at Wingate University from 2008 to 2009, and the head cheerleading coach and spirit liaison at Greensboro College from 2006 to 2008. As the head cheerleading coach since 2009 at CCU, she is also responsible for the school’s current mascot, Chauncey.

Mona Prufer, a spokeswoman, said that Appenzeller had no comment at this time.

Drug and alcohol charges in the state of South Carolina carry some of the heaviest penalties in the nation. For example, if you are pulled over for suspicion of drunk driving and you refuse a breathalyzer test, regardless of your blood alcohol level, you can lose your license for 6 months. If you are arrested for possession of illegal drugs, that creates a criminal record that can follow you for the rest of your life, which means you could lose your job, or have a hard time finding a new job.

If you have been arrested in South  Carolina for crimes related to drugs or alcohol, you will need help with your case. The experienced attorneys at the Strom Law Firm can help.
