Columbia Man Receives First DUI Charge, As Well As Public Urination Citation

Police Reported Man Hit Retaining Wall, Urinated in Public – Received First Time DUI Charge

According to police reports, a man in Columbia, SC hit the retaining wall near the Walgreens in Five Points early on Thursday morning. He was arrested and charged with a DUI, as well as public urination.

At 2:30 AM, 21-year-old William Daniel Inbody hit the retaining wall near the Walgreens on Saluda Ave, in Five Points. When the officers arrived on the scene, Inbody’s Chrystler Sebring was blocking traffic, and had heavy front-end damage. Inbody himself was sitting on the ground behind the car with his genitals exposed. He admitted to the officer that he was operating the vehicle at the time of the crash.

The incident report stated that Inbody smelled strongly of alcohol, and could not stand long enough to take the field sobriety test. With officers present, he urinated behind the bushes of the retaining wall. He was then taken to the Columbia Police Department for a breathalyzer test.

DUI Charge At the Police Station

Inbody agreed to take the breathalyzer test once he reached the police station, and he blew a .22 – nearly three times the normal limit for drivers, which is .08.

Once Inbody took the test, officers at the station informed him that he could relieve himself. Instead of walking to the bathroom, however, Inbody urinated on the floor of the test room.

He received his first DUI charge, first offense citation, and unlawful urination. He is currently being held at the Alvin S. Glenn Detention Center.

South Carolina DUI laws are some of the toughest in the nation. The higher the blood alcohol level of the driver, the stiffer the penalties. And, if you refuse to take a breathalyzer test, you could lose your license for up to six months – even if this is your first offense.

There are some general rules to determining how stiff the DUI charge will be. First, your blood alcohol level will be tested – depending on how high it is, your charges could be really tough. If this is you second or third DUI charge, you will spend more time in jail. If you refuse to take the breathalyzer, had minors in your car at the time, or caused an accident or death, additional time or penalties could be added to your DUI charge.
