Don’t Let the Oreos Hit You on the Way Out!

A courageous clerk stopped a robbery with OreosA South Carolina man is facing robbery charges after a beat down by a Family Dollar clerk while trying to rob the store.

The Incident

According to WIS TV, Warren McDaniels walked into the Family Dollar at 1735 Decker Blvd at 9 a.m. July 28. McDaniels approached the register and handed his money to the clerk. As the clerk was placing his money in the drawer, he attempted to rob the register. The clerk, acting on instinct, smashed McDaniels’ fingers in the cash register.

McDaniels did not give up the fight. He pushed the drawer back at the clerk. The clerk, refusing to give up, started hitting McDaniels across the head.

McDaniels was able to flee with $30 in cash. As McDaniels approached the door to exit, the courageous clerk hit him in the head with the Oreo’s he was trying to buy.

Other Robberies

Richland County Sheriff Leon Lott credits Crimestoppers tips for leading law enforcement officers to McDaniels. Officers tracked McDaniels down and arrested him on August 12 on Hoyt Street in Columbia. Citizens identified McDaniels through surveillance video of the incident.

Investigators now think McDaniels may be behind other robberies in the area.

McDaniels’ description matches the description of the suspect wanted in connection to robberies on Two Notch Road including:

  • Burger King
  • Taco Bell
  • Zaxby’s
  • Arby’s
  • Quick Cash Payloan
  • Waffle House

So far, McDaniels is not facing charges in connection with the Two Notch Road robberies. Investigators say the investigation into the Two Notch Road robberies is ongoing and additional arrests are forthcoming.

McDaniels is currently at Alvin S. Glenn Detention Center.
