Speeding Ticket Leads to Richland County Criminal Charges

According to the Richland County Sheriff’s Department, deputies pulled a vehicle over for speeding on November 3rd. The driver informed the officers that he was speeding because his girlfriend was being robbed in a house. The driver then told the officers the location of the home, and they arrived to find an armed robbery in progress.

Deputies reported that Corie Lawrence had kicked in the door of the house and fired his gun into the roof. The officers on the scene were able to get into the home and apprehend the three criminals before any of the residents were injured. The three robbers were taken to the Region 4 substation for questioning. The criminals were then supposed to be transferred to Richland County police main headquarters on Two Notch Road. However, Corie Lawrence managed to escape the substation.

An investigation will be conducted into how Lawrence managed to escape. Currently, officials believe he escaped through the back door.

Lawrence will be extradited to face Richland County criminal charges. He will be transported from Charlotte to the Alvin S. Glenn Detention Center.
