Five South Carolina Robbery Suspects Found and Arrested

South Carolina Robbery Suspects Caught With Help of Vigilant Neighbors and DNA Evidence

After a series of burglaries in Northeast Richland County, local officials have arrested five men, after finding DNA evidence at the scenes that linked them to the crimes.

Deputies arrested 20-year-old Phillip Brandon Oliver for burglary and grand larceny, 18-year-old Maurcell DeAndre Anderson for burglary, grand larceny, and obtaining goods under false pretenses, 17-year-old Christian Daniel Ray for burglary, armed robbery, unlawful carry of a weapon, and possession of a weapon during a violent crime, 17-year-old Robert Akeem Spencer Jr. for breach of peace and armed robbery, and 21-year-old DaQuan Jones for two counts of burglary, larceny, and possession of marijuana.

Officers were able to track down these five men by knocking on doors in the neighborhood and gathering information from residents. The sheriff credits “good old fashioned community policing,” along with forensic evidence.

The South Carolina Robbery Suspects Hit Several Houses in Richland County

The sheriff’s department stated that just before noon on Wednesday, November 14, 2012 at 116 Green Rose Rd, Oliver and Anderson broke into a home via the back door. They stole various clothing and shoes with an estimated value of $1,660.00. Sheriff Leon Lott stated that a concerned citizen gave deputies important information that led to the location and arrests of Oliver and Anderson.

That same day, just after 1:00 PM on Wednesday, November 14, 2012 at 18 Autumn Glen Court, two suspects, Ray and Spencer, attempted to break in the residence through the back door; the victim heard the noise and saw two men trying to get into the home. She immediately called the police and gave a description of the men, whom officers later determined to be Ray and Jones. Deputies searched the area and found Ray and Jones at 309 Autumn Glen, where they were arrested.

Sheriff Lott stated that deputies were in the area searching for the suspects from 18 Autumn Glen, when they recovered a 42” LG flat screen television, 32” Viore flat screen television, and a Samsung tablet in the wood lines. While in the area, deputies noticed a screen was removed from the window of the residence and the rear door unlocked with the frame broken. The home had been ransacked – the victim returned home and said two televisions, jewelry, and a Bose stereo was missing from the home; it was determined that the items found in the area were stolen from the residence at 18 Long Glen Court.

Several months prior, just before 11:00 AM on Saturday, August 11, 2012 at 1116 Waverly Place Drive DaQuan Jones broke into the residence. Deputies arrived on the scene to find a broken rear window and the sliding glass door open. The victim stated that a 52” flat screen television was missing from the residence. Sheriff Leon Lott stated that the Richland County Lab Unit was able to recover DNA at the scene which linked Jones to the crime.

All five suspects have been transported to the Alvin S. Glenn Detention Center, and await trial.
