In 2006, the U.S. Food & Drug Administration (FDA) asked the Makers of several SSRI antidepressants to add information to their warning labels advising pregnant women of the potential risk of persistent pulmonary hypertension of the newborn. The FDA warning came after a study in the New England Journal of Medicine which concluded that infants born to mothers who took Lexapro in the last trimester of pregnancy had an increased risk of developing persistent pulmony hypertension.
