Man Pulled Over for Traffic Violations, Arrested for Drug Trafficking While Child in Car
A Florida man was arrested on drug trafficking charges and may face child endangerment charges after he was pulled over for traffic infractions, and officers found evidence of drugs in his vehicle.
On March 12th, officers in Brooksville, FL pulled over Alfred Grabowski II, 33 years old, after noticing that he was committing some minor traffic infractions. Detectives noticed that Grabowski was acting nervous, and he was sweating profusely. He also looked around outside the vehicle repeatedly, which led officers to believe there was something to search for.
Grabowski was searching for the vehicle’s registration, which is standard procedure for police officers to ask for, and found a glass pipe which is commonly used for illegal drugs.
Officers also noticed a small child strapped into a car seat in the front of Grabowski’s truck. Officers later identified the child as the suspect’s 8 month old son.
Police became suspicious that Grabowski was high and could possibly have drugs in the car, so they asked him to step out of the vehicle. When he stepped out, the officers a 40-caliber Glock-23 in the driver’s side door.
Growing more suspicious, the police officers detained Grabowski and called in a K-9 unit to search the vehicle for drugs. When the dog gave a positive indication that there were drugs in the car, detectives searched and found 3 clear baggies of “a crystal-like substance” which was determined later to be methamphetamine; one clear plastic baggie of another crystal-like substance weighing 1.73 grams (the previous baggies totaled 114.35 grams); 12 red pills later identified as Oxymorphone Hydrochloride 10mg; 116.5 white pills found later to be hydromorphone hydrochloride, 8 mg; 16 white pills identified as Alprazolam 2 mg; one clear pipe for smoking; and a digital scale.
The amount of drugs constitute not only possession charges, but drug trafficking charges as well. Officers also found $2,142 in Grabowski’s back pocket – large amounts of money are commonly considered evidence of drug transactions. However, Grabowski said he had just collected on some debts.
Grabowski was arrested and faces the following drug trafficking and possession charges:
- Trafficking in Methamphetamine
- Trafficking in Hydromorphone
- Possession of a Controlled Substance
- Possession of Paraphernalia (2 counts)
- Sale of Controlled Substance (2 counts)
- Possession of a Structure for the Purpose of Manufacturing a Controlled Substance
So far, no police statements indicate whether or not he has been charged with child endangerment, but that charge could be added later.
