Man in Richland County Killed Wife, Faces Criminal Charges

A Richland County man is being held under bond after he was arrested for murdering his estranged wife.

Deputies from Richland County arrested 41-year-old Dexter Lee Boulware, and he has been charged with murder and burglary, after he allegedly broke into his wife’s mother’s house and killed his wife when she returned. She was shot several times in the upper body and rushed to Palmetto Health Richland Hospital, where she was pronounced dead at 11:13 AM.

Boulware broke into the house at Thornfield Road earlier on the morning of October 15th, and when Tacora Thomas – his estranged wife – and her mother returned home, Boulware shot Thomas repeatedly, then fled to a relative’s house. Tacora Thomas’s mother was reportedly unharmed.

Man had History of Criminal Charges in Richland County

Boulware had previously been arrested on criminal charges, including domestic violence, and was out on bond. He was supposed to have been in court for a criminal domestic violence charge, in fact.

According to the Richland County Sheriff’s Department, they had a history of responding to domestic violence calls at Boulware’s home. The Richland County Sheriff’s Department also stated that Thomas had called the department on Sunday because she received several threatening text messages that she believed were sent by Boulware.

She had a restraining order out on her husband, and was in the process of legally separating from him.

“We are investigating to determine exactly what took place leading up to the shooting,” said the Richland County Sheriff’s Department.
