Police: Teen Loses Legs as She Tries to Board Train

(Colorado)- Police say A 17-year-old Colorado State University student lost both her legs when she and three friends tried to get on a freight train and fell underneath it.

The accident occurred in the town of Longmont.

One of her three friends was briefly dragged by the train, but he only suffered only minor injuries.

Train speed limits throughout the town are 25 mph. It is not known exactly how fast the train was going at the time of the accident.

The injured student was taken toLongmontUnitedHospitalby ambulance and then flown toDenvershe is believed to be  conscious and able to talk.

No names have been released, but the Longmore Police Commander said the three males with her were between 17 to 20 years old.

Authorities stated the male who was dragged by the train was cited for trespassing, as was another one of the males.   A third male made it aboard the train and his whereabouts are still unknown.

The commander said he did not know if the female would be cited.

“She’s got enough issues to worry about,” he said.
