Pradaxa Side Effects
Since it received approval by the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) in 2010, Pradaxa, a prescription blood thinner, has been prescribed to patients to reduce the risk of stroke or serious blood clots. According to the FDA, this drug has been linked to approximately 260 deaths.

The company stated that it knew about the dangerous side effect of its blockbuster drug, but that it had to weigh the potential life-saving benefits against the harm.
On July 23, 2014, the British Medical Journal found that the risk for major adverse bleeding while taking the Pradaxa could be significantly reduced with regular blood plasma level monitoring. The study stated: “if the plasma levels of the drug were measured and the dose was adjusted accordingly, major bleeds could be reduced by 30-40% compared with well controlled warfarin.” A few years earlier, the European Medicines Agency reported more than 250 cases of serious and sometimes fatal bleeding associated with the use of this drug.
