South Carolina Restaurant Settles DUI Wrongful Death Suit for $1.1 Million

DUI litigationOwner of Charleston, SC restaurant Husk has agreed to pay $1.1 million in a DUI lawsuit to the family of a man killed in a car crash in December.

Quentin Gregory Miller died on December 17th when Adam Joseph Brunelle, the assistant manager of Husk at the time, collided with the back of Miller’s vehicle on a bridge near Charleston, early in the morning. Miller’s car burst into flames.

At the time of the accident, Brunelle was intoxicated – his blood alcohol level was .24, three times the legal limit in the state of South Carolina. Brunelle was charged with felony DUI, and is out on bail awaiting trial.

Miller’s family sued Husk, stating that the restaurant had allowed Brunelle to stay past 2 am, legal closing time for bars, and continue drinking.

Neighborhood Dining Group, the owners of Husk, and Peerless Indemnity Insurance Company will pay the settlement to Miller’s parents, and common law wife. The settlement will be finalized this Thursday, August 9th.
