Target Issues Product Recall for Cookware Due to Breaking Hazard

Target Voluntarily Issues Product Recall for Giada de Laurentiis Pan

According to a statement from Target, a cookware pan in the Giada de Laurentiis line could break, causing a laceration hazard, and the company has issued a voluntary product recall for safety reasons.

The Target Corporation of Minneapolis, Minn, as well as pan manufacturer Wilton Industries of Woodridge, Ill, have voluntarily issued a product recall for Giada de Laurentiis-branded ceramic lasagna pans. Reportedly, the pan can break at the handles, causing sharp edges that pose a laceration hazard.

The product recall covers 148,700 ceramic lasagna pans. Target has received 39 complaints of either the pan or its handles breaking during normal use. Cuts and lacerations were reported in six of those incidents.

Consumers are advised to immediately stop using the lasagna pans and return them to a local Target store for a full refund. The pan is available individually or as part of a 6-piece set; consumers who bought the 6-piece set should return the lasagna pan only.

The pans were manufactured in China exclusively for Target stores, nationally and online, between January 2009 through October 2012.

If you have purchased one of the lasagna pans, or have questions about the recall, you can call Target Corp at 1-800-440-0680 from 7 AM to 8 PM Central Time, Monday through Friday. You can also visit Target.com and go to the Product Recalls page, then select Home and Kitchen. You can also receive the latest news about a variety of safety and product recalls at the Consumer Product Safety Commission’s (CPSC) website at cpsc.gov.

Product Recalls and Personal Injury Cases

Every year, thousands of consumers sustain serious injuries from defective products. A defective product lawyer can help you with an injury you may receive. Many of these injuries could be avoided if the manufacturers or distributors of these products took additional steps to ensure consumer safety. Defective products that commonly cause injuries include medical devices, pharmaceutical products, and other defective products such as toys, cars and automotive parts.

There are a number of reasons that defective products make it to our shelves:

  • Defective manufacturing
  • Inadequate testing
  • Design defects
  • Marketing Misrepresentation

To protect yourself and your family, it’s important to know what products have been recalled because they are defective or unsafe. Federal agencies such as the FDA (Food and Drug Administration) and the CPSC (U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission) frequently issue recalls for medical devices, drugs, and products that may be harmful to consumers.

Consumers that have been harmed by defective products such as drugs, medical devices, or other products, may be eligible to receive legal remedies. Such legal remedies, or damages, may include compensation for medical expenses, lost wages, loss of physical capacity, pain, suffering, and mental anguish. Punitive damages are also available in many jurisdictions to punish defendants in those cases involving particularly egregious conduct which demonstrates a reckless or wanton disregard for the safety of the public.
