Why is the University of Colorado number one?

The University of Colorado gained national attention on April 20, 2012 during an annual 4/20 smoke out. To prevent marijuana usage on campus during 4/20 the school administration used “stinky fish fertilizer” to keep marijuana users off the grassy quad. The school also closed the entire campus on April 20, 2012 to visitors in an effort to prevent others from joining in the smoke out.

During the crackdown, the school issued $100 tickets to those caught smoking on campus. The school hoped the marijuana crackdown on April 20, 2012 would help curtail the school’s pot smoking reputation. According to the Huffington Post, the University of Colorado’s Student Government Vice President Brooks Kanski said in a statement, “Do any search online of CU-Boulder and what will invariably pop up is an image or video of 4/20. Questions about 4/20 plague CU graduates in job interviews. It’s time for all of this to end.”

The University of Colorado-Boulder also hosted an unofficial event in 2011 where more than 10,000 people gathered on the campus for a smoke and demonstration for legalizing marijuana.
