9 Tips for Children Recovering from Concussion

Concussion LitigationAlthough most children recover quickly from concussions, they still require rest and care.  Parents and caregivers of children can help them get better by making sure they’re taking an active role in the recovery.

Some children recover fully in a few days and some take much longer, and how quickly they heal depends on a number of factors.  The severity of the concussion, their age, their health in general, and how they take care of themselves after being injured.  Parents can make a big difference in ensuring the child is taken care of post-injury.

Rest

Children love to be active, but rest is incredibly important in healing from a concussion.  Schoolwork, games, and play can be difficult or even impossible with a head injury.  The single most important thing you can do for a child after getting a concussion is to make sure they rest.  They simply cannot heal without rest.

Rest also means you should wait until their concussion symptoms are nearly gone and you’ve gotten approval from a health care professional to allow them to return to school.  If you symptoms come back when they do so, they need to be allowed to rest and heal more
