US Drug Watchdog Fights Aggressively Against Transvaginal Mesh

Initially, transvaginal mesh was designed to help women suffering pelvic organ prolapse (POP) or stress urinary incontinence (SUI). The FDA promoted the devices as minimally-invasive, and specifically designed to work with women’s bodies.shutterstock_564092713

However, since 1999, when the first vaginal mesh device was recalled due to failures, women have been reporting severe complications with transvaginal mesh. Women suffer from complications including continued organ prolapse, hematomas and abscesses, and organ perforations, which require numerous surgeries, few of which are successful at removing the mesh device. The numerous women who have had the devices fail continue to suffer severe pain, which often prevents them from completing daily activities or returning to work.

Now, the US Drug Watchdog is calling out transvaginal mesh manufacturers, and calling for women who suffer from mesh failures to contact them for aggressive legal representation. In a press release on their website, Watchdog says: “We are now calling the Transvaginal mesh disaster the absolute worst mess we have ever seen for women, and the damages are literally beyond comprehension. We are also talking about a potentially huge number of US women who have been impacted. According to the New York Times, in 2010, about 185,000 women underwent procedures in which mesh was implanted vaginally to treat urinary incontinence. That is 2010 alone … Because the Transvaginal Mesh failures are such a sensitive topic we fear it will not get much press coverage. We are urging all US women to share this press release with their family members, or women friends. Initially we assumed we would be talking to women in their 40s to their 60s. Half of the women we talk to are in their mid 30s. The youngest victim we have talked to so far is in their very early 20s. We are horrified.”

There are several multidistrict litigations against transvaginal mesh manufacturers. If you or a loved one have had a transvaginal mesh implant that has failed, you may be entitled to compensation. While the US Drug Watchdog fights to publicize the terrible complications associated with the devices, the attorneys at Strom Law can fight for you in court.
