Atlanta Falcon Arrested for DUI Hours After MNF Game

One football player broke a record and got a criminal record the same night after a DUI arrest.

According to the Atlanta Journal and Constitution, Atlanta Falcon’s running back, Michael Turner, is facing DUI charges hours after leading his team to a win over Peyton Manning and the Denver Broncos during a Monday Night Football game.

A DUI Task Force officer on 1-85 near Indian Trail Rd stopped Turner, 31, just after 4 a.m. Tuesday morning. The officer stopped Turner‘s Audi R8 for going 97 mph in a 65 mph speed zone. During the stop, “the officer could smell an odor of alcoholic beverage coming from the driver and proceeded to conduct a DUI investigation,” Gwinnett police Cpl. Edwin Ritter said in an email. Ritter also stated in the email, “During the course of the investigation, the officer developed probable cause to charge Mr. Turner with DUI and speedingDUI.”

Turner was arrested and booked just after 5 a.m. He was released from jail two hours later after posting $2,179 bail, according to jail records.

During the Monday Night Football game, Turner scored his 51st Falcon touchdown, which set a franchise record.

The Falcons released a statement Tuesday morning saying, “We are aware of the situation involving Michael and are in the process of gathering more information. Because this is now a legal matter, the club will have no further comment at this time.”

Prior to joining the Falcons in 2008, Turner played three seasons with the San Diego Chargers from 2004 to 2007. Turner also played for Northern Illinois University.
