Chevrolet Express, Suburban, GMC Savana and Yukon Recall

General Motors is issuing a recall affecting approximately 6,159 of their vehicles. The vehicles affected include Chevrolet Express, Suburban, GMC Savanna, and Yukon XL Heavy duty vehicles. The recall is due to a steering defect. The recall notice states the steering gear pitman shaft in certain 2012 vehicleys may have been inadequately hardened and could fracture. The fracturing could cause a loss of steering control and loss of control of the vehicle resulting in catastrophic or fatal accidents.

The recall should be in progress. If own one of the General Motors vehicles subject to recall, you may take the vehicle to a dealer where inspection and necessary fixes will be done free of charge. For questions you may contact NHTSA direcly at 1-888-327-4236 and reference safety No. 12055.
