Hercules Tire & Rubber is recalling approximately 1,222 of their tires. The recall affects the company’s H502 radial medium tubeless truck tires sized 315/80R22.5 Load Range J. The tires are being recalled due to an insufficient tire liner gauge that potentially causes the tire to separate while the vehicle is in operation.
The recall began August 17. Those with the affected tires are asked to take their cars to a dealer to have them inspected. If dealers find the tires to be defective they will perform necessary services to fix the tires free of charge. Vehicles owners call also contact Hercules directly at 1-800-677-3573. More information about the recall can also be found on NHTSA under recall number 12T021000.
Tire tread separation at highway speeds can dramatically affect the ability of the driver to maintain control of the vehicle, which often results in a catastrophic, single-vehicle accident. Tire failures are also more likely to lead to rollovers when they occur on a vehicle with a high center of gravity such as many popular sport utility vehicles. And, unfortunately oftentimes there is little sign or warning that your tires are in danger.
