A judge ordered Barron Hilton, the brother of reality star Paris Hilton, to pay $4.9 million to a worker at a gas station, after hitting him with his Mercedes-Benz while driving drunk.
The lawsuit came from a 2008 accident where witnesses claimed Barron Hilton drove the wrong way for miles on the Pacific Coast Highway. They stated that when he finally stopped to pull into a gas station in Malibu, he struck an employee.
The decision in the civil suit included $4.6 million for pain and suffering, lost earnings, and medical expenses. Hilton was also ordered to pay $225,000 in punitive damages and approximately $71,000 in interest.
Hilton claimed he was not driving the car and had amnesia. Witnesses, however, placed him at the scene driving the vehicle, and identified him as the driver.
Hilton was arrested and charged with driving under the influence of drugs or alcohol. He was 18 at the time and he registered .14% Blood Alcohol Content.
