Secret Service to investigate hack on Fox News Twitter

Hackers broke into Fox’s political Twitter account Monday morning on July 4, posting updates claiming President Barack Obama had been assassinated.

A total of six tweets coming from the account reported that Obama had been killed by an unknown shooter in Iowa.

Fox News released a statement calling the tweets “malicious” and “false.”

“We will be requesting a detailed investigation from Twitter about how this occurred, and measures to prevent future unauthorized access into FoxNews.com accounts.”

Obama is scheduled to spend the nation’s Independence Day at a barbecue at the White House with military families and administration staffers.

Secret Service spokesman George Ogilvie says the agency will conduct an investigation of the false postings.

Fox’s political Twitter account has approximately 34,000 followers.
