23 People in One Truck veered off the road killing at least 13 people and injuring 10 more. The victims of the auto accident included at least two young children. The accident occurred Sunday evening in South Texas.

The theater massacre was not the only incident to kill more than a dozen people this weekend in an auto accident.

The 23 passengers were all piled into a 2000 white Ford F-250. Passengers were both inside the cab and in the bed of the truck. The truck was heading north on U.S. 59 when it veered off the right side of the highway and struck two large trees. The auto accident happened in an unincorporated area near the community of Berclair in Goliad County. Berclair is about 100 miles southeast of San Antonio.

Gerald Bryant, the spokesperson for the Texas Department of Public Safety, stated that this auto accident involved “the most people I’ve seen in any passenger vehicle, and I’ve been an officer for 38 years.” Six of the victims were stuck inside the mangled truck when emergency crews arrived on the scene. Bryant said the scene immediately following the accident was very chaotic and traumatic.

The initial estimate of victims was 11. The number rose to 13 after two victims passed away in local hospitals overnight. Many of the survivors of the auto accident are facing life-threatening injuries. The official conditions of the survivors are not known; however, they are currently being treated at hospitals in San Antonio, Victoria, and Corpus Christi.

According to Bryant, it is unknown whether the victims were illegal immigrants or not. The Texas Department of Public Safety, Goliad County Sheriff’s Department and Border Patrol agents are all continuing to investigate the accident.
