Product Recall: Frozen Pizza Found to Have Plastic Pieces

Manufacturer Issues Product Recall for Four Types of Frozen Pizza with Plastic Pieces Inside

On Thursday, May 2nd, the FDA issued a product recall for two kinds of DiGiorno pizzas and two kinds of California Pizza Kitchen pizzas, because consumers found plastic pieces inside.

Nestle officials said on Thursday that the pieces of plastic are small, triangular, clear, and brittle. They may all have sharp edges. All four kinds of pizzas under the product recall were manufactured between February 26th and March 9th, 2013, then shipped to retailers.

So far, one customer has been injured after eating the pizza – the person bit into a slice and chipped  tooth on the plastic.

Nestle says they do not yet know how many pizzas have been contaminated, but they did say the problem stemmed from a batch of spinach used in making all four kinds of pizza.

The pizzas subject to the FDA’s product recall are:

·         California Pizza Kitchen® Limited Edition Grilled Chicken with Cabernet Sauce, UPC 71921 00781; production code is 3059525952

·         DiGiorno® Crispy Flatbread Pizza Tuscan Style Chicken, UPC 71921 02663; production codes are 3057525922 and 3058525921.

Defective Products Recall Notices Are One Step to Ensure Consumer Safety

To protect yourself and your family, it’s important to know what products have been recalled because they are defective or unsafe. Federal agencies such as the FDA (Food and Drug Administration) and the CPSC (U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission) frequently issue recalls for medical devices, drugs, and products that may be harmful to consumers.

Every year, thousands of consumers sustain serious injuries from defective products. A defective product lawyer can help you with an injury you may receive. Many of these injuries could be avoided if the manufacturers or distributors of these products took additional steps to ensure consumer safety. Defective products that commonly cause injuries include medical devices, pharmaceutical products, and other defective products such as toys, cars and automotive parts.

There are a number of reasons that defective products make it to our shelves:

  • Defective manufacturing
  • Inadequate testing
  • Design defects
  • Marketing Misrepresentation
