Counterfeit Cialis is Dangerous Drug Per FDA

FDA Turns Away Shipment of Dangerous Drug with Both Cialis and Viagra Inside

dangerous drugThe Food and Drug Administration in the US recently turned away a shipment of Cialis, an erectile dysfunction drug that is a direct competitor to Viagra, which the safety agency claims came from Australia. The Cialis in the shipment is a particularly dangerous drug because it contains the active ingredient of Cialis, as well as the active ingredient of Viagra.

The FDA claims that the drug was made at an Eli Lilly plant in Australia, but the pharmaceutical company says it does not operate manufacturing facilities for Cialis or any other drug in Australia.

“Lilly does not manufacture Cialis in Australia. In fact, Lilly does not currently operate a manufacturing site in Australia for any of its products. Thus, any Cialis product with packaging stating it is from Lilly in Australia is not genuine,” the company said. “This appears to be a counterfeit version of Cialis.”

The dangerous drug contains both tadalafil, the active ingredient in Cialis, and sildenafil, the active ingredient in Viagra. The FDA conducted a routine sample analysis on Monday, January 12th, and found the unapproved drug combination. The agency released this statement:  “Although Cialis is currently an approved new drug product, the current application does not include the combination of tadalafil and sildenafil. As such; the aforementioned product appears to be an unapproved new drug.”

Erectile dysfunction drugs like Viagra and Cialis are the most frequently counterfeited drugs. Dietary supplements are often found to contain active ingredients from Viagra or Cialis, even though the manufacturing companies do not state that they have pharmaceutical ingredients, nor do the companies request FDA approval for their supplements. Online companies also offer counterfeit dangerous drugs, especially Viagra and Cialis; in 2012, the World Meeting on Sexual Medicine released a study that found that 77% of Viagra purchased online without a prescription was fake.
