Several Members of the SC and NC Chapters of Hell’s Angels Face Federal Criminal Charges in Court
Several members of the South Carolina branch of the notorious motorcycle gang, the Hell’s Angels, face federal criminal charges for prostitution, armed robbery, and selling drugs.
The criminal activity centered around the Rock Hill, SC chapter. A raid in June 2012 rounded up 20 members of the gang for cocaine and narcotics conspiracies, as well as accusations of violence. This particular chapter, named the Rock Hell City Nomad chapter, had a support club called the Red Devil’s Motorcycle Club. This is not an unusual tactic for Hell’s Angels chapters, who use the clubs as a front for owning businesses that they can use for illegal activities. The RDMC used a club house at 5622 Highway 302 in West Columbia.
During the raid on the club house in June, police seized more than $300,000, about 100 weapons, nine Harley-Davidson motorcycles and drugs.
Now, members of the gang are set to go on trial on Monday, February 11th, according to the US Attorney’s Office. Many of the members going to trial face additional federal criminal charges for money laundering, weapons trafficking, and arson.
So far, three of the gang members – which include chapter president Dan “Diamond Dan” Bifield and his wife, Lisa – have pleaded guilty to the federal criminal charges. They have not yet been sentenced.
Since the allegations involve an ongoing criminal enterprise, potentially across state lines, prosecutors are aiming for racketeering convictions, which are often referred to as RICO crimes in federal court.
